Coceral said Friday that it has downwardly revised its estimate for the
European Union’s 2012-13 corn production by 9.75 million metric tons to 55.98
million tons.
The lobby group cut its expectations for most of the bloc’s
biggest growers, with drought-plagued central and southeastern areas suffering
most.

It now projects Romania’s production at 5.23 million tons, compared with
its June estimate of 10.33 million tons, and also cut Hungary’s forecast output
to 4.68 million tons from 8.33 million tons.

Coceral said the 27 countries that make up the EU are expected to
produce 273.73 million tons of total grain, down from 281.80 million tons, with
its estimate of the bloc’s wheat production falling to 124.69 million tons from
125.51 million tons.
